I Believe in Miracles

10 years at the Collection Lambert

December 12, 2010 – May 8, 2011

The Collection Lambert en Avignon has come a long way since it opened in 2000. Successive exhibitions have earned it widespread recognition at regional and national level in France as well as on the international scene. Over the past ten years, the museum has played host to a large number of artists of different ages and nationalities, many of whom are close friends of Yvon Lambert and have created unique, magical, enduring works specially for the museum.

More than just a review of the past decade, “Je crois aux miracles” reminds us of the outstanding talent of artists invited to take part in landmark themed exhibitions such as “Artists’ Collections” (2001), “A fripon, fripon & demi” (2003) and “Figures de l’acteur” (2006), as well as those invited to hold their first major shows in France: Andres Serrano, Candice Breitz, Francis Alÿs, Christian Marclay, not to mention grand masters such as Cy Twombly, Sol LeWitt, Miquel Barceló and Douglas Gordon.

Building up a subtle portrait of the collector himself, this exhibition takes the form of a real and imaginary journey suffused with images that reflect the key themes of a collection that began in the 1960s with three pioneering art movements, minimalism, conceptualism and land art, and continues today with over 400 new works, including some acquired or donated very recently.
