Cindy Van Acker
Performance

It could last a quarter of an hour or… three times as long. No two performances will be the same; you could come to any of them, because each one promises to be unique. Cindy Van Acker, a dancer trained in the rigours of the classical tradition, has been developing her own creations for over 25 years, characterised by concentration, slowness, interiority, precision of gesture and composition to the millimetre. With these Impromptus, the Flemish-born choreographer from Geneva offers herself a kind of new escape. Here she experiments with a new relationship to creation, in a simplified approach to space and audience. Using the works presented at the Collection Lambert as a starting point, she will create a bespoke performance in the space and time of a day, with her performers and a sound artist, based on an encounter with the work chosen that very morning. A step aside, a space for composing and playing in the here and now, to create a small, light piece with the utmost care. ‘Like a counterpoint to the creations,’ she says. An opening, a breath of air.
Biography
Classically trained, Cindy Van Acker joined the Geneva contemporary dance scene in the 1990s. She founded Cie Greffe in 2002. Since then, she has created some thirty pieces for Cie Greffe, as well as works for Ballet de Lorraine, BGT Geneva, Ballet Junior and P.A.R.T.S., and choreography for Romeo Castellucci’s productions. His meticulous writing, combining slowness, mentalisation, constraint, geometry, minimalism and sonic intensity, unfolds in an extremely singular territory. Her pieces Diffraction and Speechless Voices were awarded the OFC choreographic production prize. She is the winner of the Swiss Performing Arts Prize 2023 / Hans Reinhart Ring and the Leenaards Cultural Prize 2023.
