Japanese activism of the 2000s

i Viva Villa ! Festival

7th november 2019

SPEAKER: ANNIE CLAUSTRES

Annie Claustres will present her research project developed at Villa Kujoyama around Japanese activism, especially for years
2000, where the gift has a societal, aesthetic and political dimension. Her work is fueled by interviews with creators and actors from the contemporary Japanese art scene.

Contemporary Japanese activism and the question of giving – between relationships and artistic creation

The research project focuses on art from the 2000s and more specifically concerns Japanese activism, while drawing on interviews with creators and actors in the Japanese art scene. We thus intend to counter the work of art understood as a commodity in terms of the creations of the offering where the gift has a societal, aesthetic, political dimension.
