Exhibition and Yvon Lambert Award for Young Artists
December 11, 2016 – June 5, 2017
Last summer, the exhibitions at the museum allowed us to reconnect with the network of our activities and those of the École Supérieure d’Art d’Avignon, whether in management or in preventive conservation. Students, with their enthusiasm and commitment, made us want to create a totally new exhibition called ‘‘Rêvez!’’ The title resumes the injunction of the work of Claude Lévêque who associates his talent and his fame to serve the youngest artists.
Beginning mid-July, we decided to organise a very simple exhibition in terms of its artistic proposal and yet, to our knowledge, never done before. We asked young graduates from seven art schools in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region to send us the files they had prepared in view of their diplomas awarded last June. We wanted to select one work per file received.
Yvon Lambert reacted with the elegance for which he is known. He proposed to create the Yvon Lambert Prize for Young Creation by donating 1000 euros to seven young artists, with the proposal that these seven works integrate our collections alongside Cy Twombly, Carl Andre, Andres Serrano…
More than 20 years ago, Yvon Lambert launched an heroic annual fair where very famous or unknown artists donated a work in the format of a postcard. The works were sold for 100 euros each and benefits were donated to the fight against AIDS – the name of the artist having been previously concealed before the sale. It is not an end of the year salethat we propose in Avignon, but indeed an exhibition that can compete with the Whitney Biennale in New York!
