An American-Portuguese artist and filmmaker born in North Carolina and based in Lisbon, Gabriel Abrantes develops a body of work at the intersection of cinema, painting, drawing and video. His work combines humour, poetry and science fiction to explore the political, social and technological upheavals of our time. In 2018, his film Diamantino, co-directed with Daniel Schmidt, received the Grand Prix at the Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2025, Gabriel Abrantes was invited by the Lambert Collection to present his first major exhibition in France. Entitled Limbo, the exhibition brings together recent works, including Bardo Loops, an expansive 3D-animated video installation created in 2024. In an apocalyptic world, Gabriel Abrantes blends tragedy and farce to offer a perspective on our contemporary world that is both critical and deeply poetic. On the occasion of this exhibition, the artist has generously created an edition for the Lambert Collection, extending his exploration of strange worlds and hybrid figures.
